Broadcasting a Bright Future

Like a lot of high school students, Tim Anderson didn’t really know what he wanted to do in life. “I enrolled at CCC as a kid with no particular sense of direction as to what exactly I wanted to do as a career.”

Tim is a musician who has videos on YouTube, enjoys photography and videography as hobbies, and can take a computer apart and put it back together. So, perhaps it was natural for Tim to end up in CCC’s Broadcasting and Production Technology program. In December 2015 he graduated with his Associate in Applied Science in Broadcasting and Production Technology, having already earned an Associate in General Education and a diploma in Broadcasting and Production Technology in May.

Tim Anderson earned an Associate in Applied Science in Broadcasting and Production Technology at CCC. Today he operates up to five cameras during live news casts at WSOC-TV.

He had found his path. He graduated with a 3.9 GPA and “a wealth of skills and knowledge that prepared me for a career and great life ahead of me.”A few months later, Tim landed a job at WSOC-TV Channel 9 in Charlotte. He operates up to five robotic cameras for live newscasts, making sure the cameras are where they need to be and set up to get the right shot. During the newscasts he monitors what the cameras are showing and makes adjustments as needed, plus he gives time queues and instructions to the on-air news anchors. It’s a lot to keep track of during a fast-paced newscast. It takes focus and attention to detail. “It’s really like driving several cars at once, but each one is probably much more expensive than a Lamborghini,” he says.

Tim’s experience in the Broadcasting and Production Technology program at CCC helped prepare him for this job. “Having the opportunity to run cameras for football games and both live and studio productions for C19TV really gave me the experience and confidence I needed in order to run several cameras simultaneously for a live newscast.”

The high school kid with no sense of direction has grown into a man who is passionate about his career. His current job is an amazing opportunity that he intends to enjoy and make the most of, but he’s also looking ahead. Don’t be surprised if someday you see Tim Anderson in front of the camera!
