Congratulations to CCC students Sara Mayes and Haley Shasteen who each received scholarships from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation! They will each receive a total of $5,000 to help pay for tuition, books, fees and supplies during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.
Sara Mayes is a 2016 graduate of Kings Mountain High School. During her time in high school, she was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and the National Technical Honors Society. She has been involved in Girl Scouts, her church youth group, and the Ambassador Club, and has received the DAR Good Citizens Award and Academic Awards recognition. After completing her associate degree, Sara plans to transfer to Appalachian State University where she wants to major in Elementary Education and eventually pursue a master’s degree.
Haley Shasteen graduated from Shelby High School in 2016. While in high school, she was a member of the Beta Club and National Technical Honors Society. She also participated in the Interact Club, Health Science Club and Relay for Life. Having a passion for helping others, Haley has chosen to pursue a career in the nursing field. Upon completion of two years at CCC, she plans to continue her education at Appalachian State University. Her ultimate goal is to receive a master’s degree in nursing and specialize in neonatology.
