Cleveland Community College provides diverse and accessible learning opportunities to meet the educational and training needs of our community.

For the second time, Cleveland Community College has received a $1.1 million grant to support its TRiO-Student Support Services project! The five-year federal grant will provide $220,000 each year to support the TRiO-SSS project. A few weeks ago, Congressman Patrick McHenry visited CCC to present a check to the TRIO-SSS director and a group of students.

The project’s goal is to help first-generation college students, low-income students, and others successfully complete a program of study.

The project director, Annette Toms, says that the grant gives her team the ability to provide students with help choosing the right classes, tutoring support, mentoring opportunities, and more. There were so many success stories during the first grant cycle they are excited to be able to continue.

The TRiO-SSS project is part of the federal TRiO Programs, aimed at helping increase graduation rates among students from disadvantaged backgrounds, low-income students, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities.

As part of this second grant cycle, Toms and her team plan to expand the project’s offerings to include, among other services, social belonging strategies and connection with workforce development services.
