(Shelby, NC) – The practical nursing program at Cleveland Community College has been ranked #2 in North Carolina by PracticalNursing.org. “The College is really proud of the success of our PN students. The number two ranking speaks to our faculty members’ dedication and devotion to student success,” says CCC President Dr. L. Steve Thornburg. “The faculty in the Practical Nursing program work really hard to help students be successful in both the classroom and clinical setting. They want to help students reach their goals and fulfill their dreams.”
According to its website, PracticalNursing.org uses a ranking methodology by “retrieving NCLEX-PN pass rates from all LPN and LVN programs state by state through various methods including making Freedom of Information Act requests.” Cleveland Community College has had a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-PN for the past five years.
CCC Discipline Coordinator for practical nursing, Sherry Hamrick says, “Give your students 100% and they will give you 100% back. Their success is your success. Never settle for less than 100%. Demand it,” she adds. Hamrick and CCC Nursing Instructor Anne Wise have both been recognized for their classroom efforts over the last year. Hamrick was selected as CCC’s 2013 Excellence in Teaching Recipient and Wise was named 2013 Practical Nursing Instructor of the Year by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. “This is a great honor for Cleveland. It represents the quality of the students that graduate as well as the faculty and staff that prepare our students for the nursing profession,” says Wise.
The LPN program also prides itself in working closely with area healthcare providers and building relationships that benefit students once they graduate. “As Director of Nursing for Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, I feel very confident hiring nurses from the LPN program at Cleveland,” says Angela Moses. “The program is well organized, the education the students receive is excellent, and Sherry Hamrick and Anne Wise are awesome,” she adds.
The practical nursing program at CCC prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults.
